Expert in the methodology of geography, the science of science, synthesis of geographical knowledge with the achievements of related sciences, as well as in self-organization of the urban settlement system and in the theory of central places. He developed further the idea of hierarchy within the urban settlement system, introduced the concept of isostatic equilibrium in the systems of central places and suggested interpretation of urban agglomerations emergence as an effect of the settlements network unevenness.
